April-June 2009

One of the goals of a missionary is to see the mission work he started reproduce itself. Almost 40 years ago, Dr Bob Gladden, a missionary who was sent out by High Street Baptist Church (HSBC) in Springfield, Missouri (USA), started a mission work in Singapore That work grew and today, Singapore Bible Baptist Church is still going on strong under the godly leadership of Pastor Davy Sim. In 1997, that church sent out its very own missionaries to Thailand - Jason and Valencia Goh.

My wife and I had the opportunity to visit HSBC in 2003 (it was and still is under the pastorate of Rev Eddie Lyons) and re-established the relationship with them. It was an awesome and encouraging experience for both. Since then, HSBC has been playing a very active role in supporting our ministry in Thailand.

This past June, we had the privilege to partner with 22 volunteers from HSBC in organizing a 3-day English and Sports Day Camp at a local public school. A total of 120 students (Grade 5-8) participated in this event. In the mornings, we taught English through charts, fun songs, interesting games and exciting team-building activities. In the afternoons, the volunteers interacted with the students through playing Frisbee and American football. On the last day, the volunteers used the Wordless book to share the Gospel message with the students. No decisions were made there and then, but …

Three days after the volunteers had left, a 12 year-old boy by the name of Pang-pon came to our center. He approached one of the staff, Bro Ole, and simply said, “I want to be a Christian. Please tell me how.” He was so ready to be saved. Ole shared the Gospel with him again and led him to Christ. What a joy!

In Oct, a team from Sumulong Baptist Church, one of our supporting churches in the Philippines, is planning a mission trip to serve alongside with us. Incidentally, this church was once under the leadership of Pastor Eddie Lyons too. Pastor Lance Gotcher, who is now the pastor, will be leading the trip. We are definitely looking forward to this partnership.
